This position serves as a File Clerk (Scanning Specialist) within the Health Information Management Section (HIMS) of the Business Office at the Iowa City VA Healthcare System in Iowa City, IA. The primary purpose of the position is to maintain accessible records and provide efficient service for direct and non-direct patient care by managing the receipt and scanning of health documents in a timely and accurate manner.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Major Duties: Performs duties related to the receipt, intake, scanning, indexing, quality control, destruction, and transfer of health and administrative information. Electronically scans various health information documents in to VistA Imaging and assures that the scanned documents are associated with the correct patient, note, and consult in the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS). Confirms record integrity and image quality displays. Performs quality assurance reviews on scanning performed by other technicians. Maintains confidentiality of all electronic records and paper components of health records. Utilizes a computer to perform a wide variety of record keeping, correspondence, tracking operations, filing, retrieval and other clerical duties associated with the retention, maintenance, disposition, guardianship, and control of health records in both terminal digit and alphabetic filing systems. Maintains daily productivity logs of scanning, importing and indexing activities. Performs other related duties. TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements described below, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute. AND Experience: At least one (1) year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of this position. ~OR~ Education: Successful completion of two (2) years of education above the high school level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. NOTE: Transcript required. Education cannot be credited without documentation. ~OR~ Combination: An equivalent combination of successfully completed post-high school education and general experience as described above which meet the total requirements for this grade level. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary, but requires a high degree of concentration, organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure and stress within specified timeframes. There is lifting and carrying of bulky records and boxes, usually not to exceed 50 pounds.
