The File Clerk (Office Automation) serves as the Scanning Technician in the Health Information Management Section (HIMS) of the Business Office Service at the Iowa City VA Health Care System. The primary duties of this position are to maintain accessible records and provide efficient service for direct and indirect patient care by managing the receipt and scanning of health documents and carrying out a variety of health information functions.
Duties
Major Duties Include:
Performs duties related to the receipt, intake, scanning, indexing, quality control, destruction, and transfer of health and administrative information.
Electronically scans various health information documents into Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA) Imaging and Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS).
Verifies that all images are clear and indexed to correct patient and attached to the correct document in CPRS.
Ensures regular quality checks are carried out according to prescribed timeframes and criteria.
Reviews documents for appropriate scanning criteria and ensures that all necessary health/administrative information meeting criteria is integrated into CPRS.
Performs quality assurance reviews on scanning by other technicians to ensure proper procedures are followed.
Maintains confidentiality of all electronic records and paper components of the health record.
Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday 7:30 am - 4:00 pm.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/17/2024.
Experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of general experience in a position that was progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates your ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the File Clerk - Scanning position. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates, AND hours worked per week.

Education: Successfully completed two (2) years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. NOTE: Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation.

Combination: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (beyond the first year) and general experience, as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. TYPING PROFICIENCY: In addition to meeting experience or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.

Physical Requirements: The work of the position is mostly sedentary; but requires a high degree of concentration, organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure and stress within specified timeframes. There is lifting and carrying of bulky records and boxes, usually not to exceed 50 pounds.
