This position is located under the Health Information Management Section (HIMS) of the Business Office Service at the Iowa City VA Health Care System. The primary duties of this position are to maintain accessible records and provide efficient service for direct and indirect patient care by managing the receipt and scanning of health documents in a timely and accurate manner.
Duties
Major Duties listed but not limited to:
Carrying out a variety of health information functions
Performs duties related to the receipt, intake, scanning, indexing, quality control, destruction, and transfer of health and administrative information
Scanning various health information documents into VistA Imaging and assuring that the scanned documents are associated to the correct patient, note (unless it is an Administrative or Clinical type document), and consult (if applicable), in the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS)
Ensures regular quality checks are carried out according to prescribed timeframes and criteria
Performing quality assurance reviews on scanning performed by other technicians to ensure proper scanning procedures ate followed to ensure integrity of the patient's electronic record.
Utilizes a computer to perform a wide variety of record keeping, correspondence, and tracking operations and performs timely filing, retrieval, and clerical duties associated with the retention, maintenance, disposition, guardianship and control of health records in both terminal digit and alphabetic filing systems
Contribute and assist in attaining Business Office goals and communicate with others and work as a team in order to master their position and provide good customer service to internal and external stakeholders
Work Schedule: 7:30am to 4:00pm, Monday-Friday (Work hours may be further discussed during interview)

Qualifications

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
General Experience: You must have one year of General experience with duties related to the position. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position, such as, receiving, indexing, scanning and filing of health and administrative information. OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 2 years of education above high school. 1 year is considered to be 30 credit hours. OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have a combination of specialized experience and education beyond high school
Example: The position to be filled is a Clerk-Typist, GS-4. The applicant has 4 months of qualifying experience and 1 year of business school. The applicant meets 33 percent of the required experience and 50 percent of the required education. The applicant meets 83 percent of the total requirements and is not qualified for the position.
In addition to the requirements above, a typing proficiency of 40 words per minute is also required.
