Qualifications
To qualify for the GS-14 level, you must have 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level defined as ability to plan, design, schedule, and carry out major programs, projects, studies, or other work within the mining sector; analyze complex issues and develop policy options and recommendations as they apply to the mining sector.
Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of environmental rules, policies, and regulations as they pertain to and effect mining.
Knowledge of organizational goals consistent with Region 10’s vision and mission to evaluate extensive, complex, and often conflicting information to make recommendations and/ordecisions on appropriate courses of action.
Knowledge of federal laws and regulations that pertain to the regulation of mining activities and wastes produced by mining.
Skill in negotiating complex and controversial issues with major consequence, both internal and with other agencies and stakeholders.
Ability to develop regulatory strategies and make recommendations to senior management on complex mining sector issues.
Ability to create innovative approaches to resolving complex and sensitive technical, procedural, political, and socio-economic problems.
Ability to lead, manage, and motivate work groups, teams, committees, and task forces involved in mining projects.
Ability to effectively communicate orally to make recommendations and/or decisions on appropriate courses of action.
Ability to communicate in writing to produce Regional and agency work products.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
