Duties
Serve as the primary training consultant and advisor to the SERE School Commander. Directs, coordinates, integrates and consolidates the work of training instructors.
Manage the SERE Program of Instruction (POI), evaluation and training of SERE Cadre.
Ensure consistency of training, conformance with all compliance with DOD Executive Agent Instructions, Joint Personnel Recovery Agency classification guidance, command policy and standards.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
- Required to pass a psychological evaluation before entrance on duty, and periodic psychological evaluations after appointment.
- This is a drug testing designated position. In accordance with AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, the incumbent must successfully pass a urinalysis screening prior to the appointment and periodically thereafter.
- Position requires TDY travel up to 15% of the time, primarily within the continental United States, and occasionally outside CONUS.
- Must be a graduate of SERE Level C with extensive experience teaching SERE Level C at a formal school.
- Must be a graduate of Joint Resistance Training Instructor Course (JRITC)
- A satisfactory medical examination is required prior to assignment into the position.
- Work is performed in and outdoors: incumbent may be exposed to inclement weather.
- Position requires working on rotating shifts and overtime may be required as workload demands.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license for passenger sedan and cargo van size vehicles.
- One-year probationary period may be required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience with Managing Survival, Evasion, Resistance, & Escape (SERE) Program of Instruction (POI), Experience in training course development, developing and modifying lesson plans, developing performance requirements, advising, and counseling. Experience in Training and evaluating lower level instructors and other aspects of training that contribute to training effectiveness. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
