The Military 2 VA (M2VA) Senior Social Worker: Community Outreach Advocate has experience that demonstrates possession of advanced practice skills and judgement. The Incumbent has at least two years of experience in a specialzed area of social work advance practice and should be in a specialized area of social work practice.

VA Careers - Social Work: https://youtube.com/embed/enRhz_ua_UU Major Duties: Outreach The incumbent is required to conduct active outreach to Veterans involved with medical center and local community. Outreach events frequently occur on evenings and weekends. The incumbent ensures Post-9/11 M2VA Program representation in outreach activities and events serving transitioning Serive Memeber and Post-9/11 era Veteran population as part of the misssion outlined in VHA Directive 101, with specific representation at bi-weekly TAPS at Luke Air Force Base, other musters and unit briefs, pre and post deployment Yellow Ribbon Events, and other outreach events as indicated. Interviews Clients and Conducts Psychosocial Assessments Interviews Veterans to establish facts about the Veteran's situation, presenting problems and the impact of such problems on the Veteran's functioning and health. Interprets and explains VA's Trement and benefit programs. Makes Psychosocial Diagnoses Independently evaluates the Veteran's situation, including the Veteran's reaction and ability to deal with it, and arrives at a reasoned conclusion. Based on the psychosocial assessment, uses professional judgement and advanced practice skills to make psychosocial diagnoses. Assessess at-risk factors and develops a preliminary disposition plan involving the Veteran and family or significant others. Performs insightful assessement of serious and complicated cases involving illness involving psychiatric, medical conditions, dementia and other high-rik diagnoses. Makes independent professional dcisions and recommendations for agency action. Plans Effective Treatment Assures the transfer of health care, both inpatient and outpatient to the appropriate VHA and community resources. When provision of direct services are indicated develops psychosocial treatment plans in coordination with other social workers, case manager, managed care staff and discharge planners. Using kwown available recources and the inital assessment of the Veteran's likelihood to accept differing types of assistance makes initial and continuing decisions regarding use of VHA services and referrals. Arrives at a reasoned conclusion as to the preferred coursee of agency action. Provides independent consultation and makes recommendations to interdisciplinary team on course of treatment. This will require an intimate knowledge of VHA programs and community services, and the ability to match Veteran's needs with the appropriate recources. Implements Treatment Provides clinical services to Veterans and family members/significant others in support of the Veteran's treament. Gives advice, guidance, emotional support, and other assistance. Provides individual and group counseling services, including psychotherapy in some settings. Assists and encourages Veterans and significant others in facing problems, thinking them through, evaluating the situation realistically, considering alternative courses of action, and arriving at plans for using resources to resolve problems. Evaluation, Education, Supervision, Coaching, and Mentoring Establishes a continuing relationship with the Veteran, evaluating progress towards goals and adjusting the treatment plan as appropriate. Meets with Veteran to assess accomplishments and re-establish goals. Monitors Veteran's progress, maintains comprehensive documentation, ensures expert diagnosis and treatment of clinical disorders, and shows competent discretion in decision to adjust treatment. Makes recommendations for care and changes to interdisciplinary treatment plan. Documents independently in the medicla records utilizing paper and/or eletronic formats, including psychosocial assessments, diagnostics, treatment, progress notes, clinical orders, follow up, and referral. Program Coordination Incumbent follows applicable program guidelines and procedures, both locally and nationally. The incumbent actively participates in the program conference calls and attends program trainings and meetings. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work. Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: Senior SocialWorker 0185, GS-12 Experience/Education: The candidate must have at least two years of experience post advanced practice clinical licensure and should be in a specialized area of social work practice of which, one year must be equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Senior social workers have experience that demonstrates possession of advanced practice skills and judgment. Senior social workers are experts in their specialized area of practice. Senior social workers may have certification or other post-masters training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship or equivalent supervised professional experience in a specialty. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, candidates must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: (a) Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation, negotiation, and monitoring. (b) Knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program. (c) Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program. (d) Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s). (e) Ability to provide training, orientation, and guidance within clinical practice. References: VA Handbook 5005/120, PART II, APPENDIX G39 dated September 10, 2019 This position is above the Full Performance Level for this series. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is GS-12. Physical Requirements: Traveling throughout the medical center and the community is requried, as is performing activities involving sitting, walking, and standing, bening and carrying such items as books, papers, and files. In carrying out responsibilities it may be nescessary for the incumbent to travel into the community where he/she conducts interviews with the Veterans, their families, respresentatives of community health and welfare agencies and law enforcement agenices. The incumbent must possess current driver's license and drive a government vehicle in carrying out professional duties when deemed necessary.
