About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency. It is located within the Clinical Support Nutrition Care Food Production and Services at the Martin Army Community Hospital at Fort Moore in Columbus, Georgia. The primary purpose is to perform tasks associated with preparation of a variety of food service work: serving prepared food and beverages, cleaning food service trays, pans, dishes and work areas. Also, counts money to verify proper change fund.

Duties

Perform common food service and preparation activities. Perform heavy duty cleaning tasks throughout food service and related areas. Operate electric kitchen equipment to prepare food items for consumption. Set-up and replenish food service bar for customer consumption. Operate cash register which records headcount figures, prices for each menu item sold, and cash collected.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination to ensure the required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 40 pounds is required.
  • This position requires the wear of personal protective equipment.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Food Service Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common tasks of a Food Service Worker. I can perform cleaning such as scraping, soaking, scouring, and scrubbing heavier cooking utensils to include mixing bowls pots and pans. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Other Than Blueprint Reading)Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentDexterity and SafetyKnowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic)Work Practices (Including Keeping Things Neat, Clean, and in Order) PHYSICAL EFFORT: The employee exerts moderate physical effort when lifting or moving objects weighing up to 40pounds. The work requires pushing heavy carts and trucks in unloading, storing, and deliveringsupplies. Use powered cleaning equipment. Requires continuous standing, walking, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in a kitchen environment with constant exposure to steam and heat from cooking and the dishwasher. Environment often uncomfortably hot, noisy and humid. Danger of slipping on freshly mopped floors or on floors where food has be spilled. Danger of cuts or serious burns due to exposure to hot liquids, sharp blades, and hot surfaces. Exposed to constant temperature changes when going from kitchen to refrigerators and freezers. Work area has adequate lighting.
