The primary purpose of this position, Security Specialist, GS-0080-07 is to review, update, and coordinate unit and base level security and law enforcement related publications, plans and memorandums of understanding and agreement.
Duties
Serve as the Security Forces Plans Manager.
Assist installation security office in the administrative and operational execution of physical security, installation security and resource protection.
Perform as the security forces functional agreement coordinator.

Qualifications
Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year, or will have one year within 120 days of closing of this announcement at the next lower grade GS-05, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes (1) developing, evaluating, maintaining, and/or operating systems, policies, devices, procedures, and methods used for safeguarding information, property, personnel, operations, and materials; and/or (2) developing and implementing policies and procedures for analyzing and evaluating the character, background, and history of employees, candidates for employment, and other persons having or proposed to be granted access to classified or other sensitive information, materials, or work sites NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement.

EDUCATION: Successfully completed 1 full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement. NOTE: You must submit copies of your unofficial transcripts with your application if using education as a substitution of experience.
OR
COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: An equivalent combination of successfully completed, qualifying education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. Possess 3 years of general experience, 1 year of which was equivalent to at least GS-4 directly related to the work of the position may be used to meet the requirements of this position. Education in excess of a post 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree may be used to qualify applicants for the GS-07 level. NOTE: You must submit copies of your unofficial transcripts with your application if using education as a substitution of experience.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-05 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1.Comprehensive knowledge of a broad range of security forces security systems, concepts, principles and practices including force protection, antiterrorism, resource protection, physical security, integrated base defense, OPSEC, crime prevention, and law enforcement program directives, policies, instructions, specialties, concepts, principles, requirements, technology, and practices to independently make decisions and recommendations.
2.Knowledge of the operation of and required standards for physical protective equipment and systems. The AF overall and AF Security Forces missions, operations, functions, and structure at the unit level to ensure effective implementation and oversight of program plans and processes.
3.Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and conduct surveys, assessments, and projects to effectively evaluate results for the management and completion of programs.
4.Knowledge of special operating requirements, methods, and procedures for enforcing specialized personnel access controls and preventing unauthorized access to areas where stringent security requirements are enforced.
5.Ability to effectively manage and organize various program activities and tasks, singularly and together, and familiar with Air Force and local administrative requirements.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work requires occasional physical exertion, such as short periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, or crawling. Security specialists engage in this physical exertion when, for example, they inspect areas prone within restricted/controlled areas where PL 3 & 4 resources are located such as storage areas for aircraft or weapons systems spare parts and flight line parking ramps and taxiways. Performance of work mostly takes place in office environments when planning and monitoring the installation of security equipment and systems.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is performed in settings in which there is regular and recurring exposure to moderate discomforts and unpleasantness, such as high temperatures in confined spaces or adverse weather conditions when inspecting controlled area facilities. The employee may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as gowns, coats, boots, goggles, or gloves.
Department of Defense Security Physical Security Certification conferral is required within 2 years of the established employee EOD or initial assignment date to this position in accordance with DOD 3305.13-M, DoD Security Accreditation and Certification and AFI 36-2645, Security Professional Certification and Development. The listed certification requirements may not be deleted or modified without the written approval of the AF Security Functional Authority (SAF/AA) or their delegated security career field representative.
