The Social Work Supervisor is responsible for the oversight and management of the social work staff assigned to the Front Door clinic. They establishes work/performance guidelines and expectations for staff. The supervisor is expected to work with the interdisciplinary team within the clinic as well as the leadership team to ensure seamless collaboration and effective communication within and outside the clinic. This position reports directly to the Emergent & Urgent Lead Social Work Supervisor.
Duties
Duties to include but not limited to:
As the social work supervisor at the Front Door Mental Health clinic, the incumbent assumes a pivotal position of social work supervisor and administrative responsibility.
Encompass clinical oversight of the social work staff, ensuring the provision of expert mental health and casement consultation to facilitate the comprehensive assessment and appropriate referral of veterans to mental health care services in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring that the program aligns with social work services and is consistent with the policies and procedures as outlined by the Mental Health Services.
Extends to consultation with veterans and their families needing mental health care, including approving all referrals and consults submitted for services.
Charged with the assignment of work and the development and implementation of work processes, aligning their efforts with the directives of the Clinical Director of Acute Mental Health Services.
Timeliness and efficiency are paramount, as the incumbent is responsible for ensuring that veterans referred to the clinic are promptly and effectively connected to the services they require.
Encompasses administrative tasks and oversight of social workers stationed at the front door clinic, including the case management services assigned to the Social Work Triage Team.
Encompass supervision, timely screening, case reviews, oversight of the suicide risk stratification, execution of brief mental health assessments, diagnosis of mental health disorders, completion of clinical reminders, management of consults, and the provision of psychoeducation to veterans and their families and consultation services to independent practitioners.
Scope of influence extends to the mentorship and supervision of social work trainees and unlicensed staff as deemed necessary.
Provide leadership in identifying and addressing ethical issues that may impact veterans and staff members, assuming the role of a resource advocate for both parties.
Administers oversight over the emergency contract bed program.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-400pm

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Education: Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. [Verification of the degree can be made by going to the CSWE website to verify if that social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a master of social work.
Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Current state requirements may be found on the OHRM website
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).
Grade Determinations:
In addition to the basic requirements above, at the GS-12 grade level the following is also required: One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience.
