You will serve as a PRODUCTION SUPPORT SUPERVISOR (TEMPORARY SERVICES) in the Temporary Service Shop (Code 990), Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will coordinate and supervise the work from Code 990’s shops to include Journeyman/Leader Electrician/HV, Air Conditioning, Pipefitting and Maintenance Mechanics. You will plan the use of workers, equipment, facilities, materials and tools provided through assigned units of work. You will conduct job briefings and readiness reviewing accordance with the applicable nuclear refueling/defueling instructions. You will utilize information from blueprints, sketches, nuclear engineering work documents and job orders to execute work operations. You will monitor the status of assigned work in relation to the overall scheduled requirements including unanticipated or emergency requirements. You will provide technical directions to workers in the electricians, pipefitters, sheet metal mechanic, air conditioning equipment mechanics, gas monitors and maintenance trade. You will take appropriate action to prevent or overcome bottlenecks, equipment and power breakdowns. You will provide help and guidance in accomplishing difficult tasks and processes on assigned projects. You will perform a wide variety of personnel programs and technical and administrative duties, i.e. leave scheduling/issues/programs, performance appraisals, awards, training, medical evaluations, discipline, etc. You will utilize the computer for performance measurements and control, timekeeping, scheduling, planning overall leave schedules and communicating.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • The position often requires irregular hours.
