About the Position: Serves as the Editor, performing executive level editorial support for senior Secretary of Defense (SECDEF) and Headquarters, Department of the Army (HQDA) staff. Incumbent performs reviews on sensitive written materials and products developed throughout the Army Staff, Army Commands (ACOMs), Army Service Component Commands (ASCCs) and Direct Reporting Units (DRUs). The target audiences for material are the SECDEF, Deputy SECDEF, and senior HQDA officials.
Duties
Provide detailed feedback, based on analysis of key quality metrics, to the documents author highlighting strengths and areas for improvement.
Receive, review, assign, and control correspondence addressed to the SECDEF, senior HQDA leadership, and other State officials.
Assign and process staff actions destined for review and approval by the HQDA leadership.
Maintain awareness of current Government writing and reporting style and format requirements and work directly with appropriate senior officials.
Assess documents by applying quantifiable data metrics of key elements necessary for compliance with DoD guidance.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Secret security clearance required.
- Position may require temporary duty (TDY) business travel of up to 25%.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes preparing and publishing written materials that explain and interpret complex policies, programs, and functions; preparing written information for a variety of audiences, such as active duty and reserve component service members to national leaders in both executive and legislative branches of government; reviewing/implementing editorial policies, practices, guidelines, and standards to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures; assisting staff and action officers in preparing clear, accurate, and concisely written documents.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
