About the Position: Fort Drum, the home of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is a unique and beautiful area. Located in Northern New York, Fort Drum is approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, the Adirondack Mountains to the east, and the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between.

Duties

Carry out all phases of mortuary services and assistance for the Casualty Assistance Center (CAC) to include Identifying Remains, Coordinating and accepting Mortuary Services from contractors. Responsible for processing current deaths of service members and their dependents, Department of the Army Civilians (DACs), active duty National Guard and Army Reservists. Serves as a member of a disaster response team in the search, recovery, evacuation, and identification of remains at an accident site. Responsible for integrating casualty operations into Garrison Plans that support the Combatant Commander and other Non Combatant Commander Plans, and coordinating with emergency management officials and Medical Treatment facilities.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Possess or obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Perform 24-hour casualty assistance duties and must be immediately available to respond.
  • Employee will be required to work irregular tours of duty to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Employee must maintain training in applicable policies, techniques, tactics, and procedures.
  • Obtain and maintain a government driver's license within 30 days of starting the position.

(Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination Education and Experience Combined: Specialized experience as described above, but less than one year; and I have less than one year of graduate education as described in above. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.). (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) Specialized Experience GS-09: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service which includes 1) Processing deaths of individuals and/or multiple deaths; 2) arranging funeral and memorial services; and 3) communicating with individual(s) to assist with coordinating funeral related actions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Successful completion a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as Mortuary Science or Funeral Service fields of study. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Education and Experience Combined: Specialized experience as described above the GS-09, but less than one year; and I have at least one year of graduate education as described above, but less than the required two years. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
