You will serve as a ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN in the SONAR Fire Control Branch of the ENGINGEERING DEPARTMENT of SOUTHWEST REGIONAL MAINTENANCE CENTER.

Duties

You will serve as a regional technical authority for Direct Fleet Support of Pacific Fleet ships operating in the Pacific Ocean area and other locations as assigned. You will serve as Technical Liason/Team Leader of organized teams responsible for functional checkout, test and inspection of major systems. You will be responsible for prioritizing work, resolving conflicts, establishing work schedules and briefing CO of ship. You will provide immediate authoritative technical assistance on urgent mission-degrading CASREPs or similar problems affecting major systems. You will provide technical assistance on less urgent but complex technical problems beyond the capability of Forces Afloat, IMA's or repair activities to diagnose and correct. You will represent COMPACFLT in the inspection and functional checkout/demonstration of major systems on new construction ships or major conversions. You will perform special engineering analyses and studies in support of SYSCOM for the purpose of developing or evaluating improvements in design, maintenance, procedures and materials. You will participate in data collection and integral data analysis efforts under the direction of senior-in house engineers for the purpose of evaluating performance characteristics, assessing improvements and recording trends.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to gain qualification as a SONAR Dome Diver.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: troubleshooting and resolving shipboard sonar systems, subsystems and equipment problems to support testing, inspection and maintenance to meet operational requirements.
