You will serve as an ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN in the Engineering Department Combat Systems Branch, (C2I Code 281) of SOUTHWEST REGIONAL MAINTENANCE CENTER. You will specialize in Total Shipboard Computing Environment Network.

Duties

You will conduct functional checkouts of modifications after completion, and indoctrination of organizational- level personnel in new operational and maintenance procedures. You will provide authoritative technical/engineering guidance to Ship Repair Facilities and naval Shipyards in resolution of repaid/overhaul or test/grooming problems. You will provide direction of test programs and evaluations of repairs required in situations of major damage or deterioration. You will participate in select technical teams assembled for the purpose of resolving major deficiencies in operation, maintenance or logistics support of assigned systems. You will familiarize operators with procedures involved and indoctrinate organizational- level maintenance personnel in trouble shooting. You will participate in Weapon System Reviews, Combat System command, Control, Communications and Computer Readiness Assessments, Total Ship Readiness Assessments, and Combat System Readiness Tests. You will provide immediate authoritative technical assistance on urgent mission-degrading or similar problems affecting major systems. You will provide technical assistance on less urgent but complex technical problems beyond the capabilities of Force Afloat. You will perform special engineering analyses and studies in support of SYSCOM or ISEA for the purpose of developing or evaluating improvements in design , maintenance procedures, and material. You will be responsible for prioritizing work, resolving conflicts, establishing work schedules, briefing CO of ships.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to perform occasional sea duty.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to work in confined spaces.
  • You will be required to climb ladders.

Qualifications

For the GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Providing technical engineering guidance by applying electronic engineering principles to a ship combat or weapon systems Test and Evaluation program to resolve controversial shipboard problems. For the GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Applying electronic engineering technician principles to provide technical assistance for a ship combat or weapon systems Test and Evaluation program to resolve controversial shipboard problems.
