About the Position: The Walla Walla District US Army Corps of Engineers is comprised of motivated and talented employees providing the very best engineering services for communities in the Pacific Northwest. The District helps manage local water resources for navigation, flood damage reduction, disaster assistance, hydroelectric power generation, and other natural and heritage areas.
Duties
Provides administrative assistance to Contracting Division including scheduling appointments, meeting locations, and greeting guests to support the mission of creating and executing contracts for the District.
Plans, programs, and formulates annual operating budget and ensures training is up-to-date, making sure training funds are available and expended appropriately.
Creates travel orders, makes transportation/hotel/car rental reservations, prepares itineraries, and submits travel vouchers for payment.
Assists with employee evaluations, awards, a variety of requests for personnel actions, training, and timekeeping.
Makes purchases with a Government issued credit card for the office.
Writes and reviews correspondence for correct use of spelling, grammar, punctuation, and formatting according to regulations.
Maintain office inventory.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. GS-5 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) performing administrative support functions AND (2) experience using software programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
OR
Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
GS-6 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) making travel arrangements; (2) processing timekeeping; AND (3) writing and/or reviewing correspondence. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05 or above).
GS-7 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) making travel arrangements; (2) processing timekeeping; 3) writing and/or reviewing correspondence; (4) scheduling and maintaining supervisor and/or management calendars; AND (5) budgeting. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06 or above).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For the GS-6 and GS-7, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
