You will serve as the Medical Administrative Assistant for the Medical Center Director and service chief located in Jonathan M. Wainwright Memorial VA Medical Center, Walla Walla, Washington.
Duties
You will determine legal eligibility by information from records or by questioning caller and advises physicians on action to take.
You will process administrative issues surrounding beneficiary death} elopements, suicides, assaults, homicides, code blue, cost recovery matters, and facility of community disasters, etc.
You will directly intervene when problems regarding patient activity occur, advising clinical staff of the appropriate administrative action.
You will serve as the Patient Advocate after normal duty hours.
You will prepare, maintain and distribute a variety of daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly reports including the daily Gains and Losses sheet and log of tour events.
You will coordinate patient transfers to and from the Medical Center.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
Work Schedule: Rotating Shifts (8:00 am- 4:00 pm, 4:00 pm-Midnight, Midnight -8:00 am) to include holidays/weekends.

GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Receive and respond to telephone inquiries; Perform data entry, processing of data, and interpreting policies; Prepare workflow charts, distribute reports, and staffing recommendations. Note: While performing at the GS-06 level, it is expected that the incumbent will perform the major functions of the position at the full performance level but with significant oversight.

GS-07 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Perform data entry, processing of data, and interpreting policies; Prepare workflow charts, distribute reports, and staffing recommendations; Processes administrative actions; Research problems and provide guidance using applicable policies/standards; Review and determine benefit travel eligibilities; Assisted with complex situation of patient care.

NOTE: As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-05 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Demands: Work is generally performed in an office setting with significant time involved on computer systems. Minimal lifting and walking are also required.
Work Environment: Work is typically performed in an adequately lighted and climate controlled office setting with significant time involved on computer. Work is accomplished in a busy environment and the incumbent usually works alone, requiring him/her to perform the duties of the position in the allotted time, sometimes facing short deadlines.
