This position is located at the Bureau of the Fiscal Service, Information & Security Services, Middleware Division, Commercial Applications Branch, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, installation, upgrade, and configuration of hardware and middleware software systems and coordinating technical aspects of the supported technologies with administrative matters.
Duties
As an IT Specialist (SYSADMIN), you will:
- Assist Fiscal Service's application developer, network, infrastructure, and platform service personnel in the evaluation of new applications in the integration infrastructure that fall within the bureau's area of responsibility.
- Provide around the clock support for platform as a service (PaaS) on Fiscal Service's infrastructure as a service. Fiscal Service supported platform as a service includes: solutions for web and n-tier application hosting, including multiple operating system based application servers; solutions for client/server applications; and solutions for distributed file transport services.
- Provide incident/problem management for Fiscal Service supported technologies. This includes the analysis of incidents to identify the cause; determination of the corrective action(s), and the following implementation of those actions; the tracking and reporting of the status of the production support utilizing Fiscal Service's incident/problem/knowledge management system.
- Provide installation, upgrade, and configuration support for Fiscal Service supported technologies. This includes installing new infrastructure middleware (database, web, application server, etc.); installing new applications / upgrading existing applications; updating / adding new configurations in production as necessary to ensure highly available and secure applications within the Fiscal Service IT infrastructure; updating/adding new configurations in production as necessary to respond to new customer requirements in existing production infrastructures; coordinating with other service line / service owner(s) to procure/acquire necessary hardware/software; working with IT security to configure the infrastructure to best protect sensitive data.
- Provide support for the user acceptance testing of new applications that fall within Fiscal Service's area of responsibility.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Specialized Experience:
For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility at the GS-11 level in the Federal service or equivalent, which have equipped the candidate with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience for this position includes job experience in the design, development, implementation and management of an enterprise level, multitiered IT infrastructure using separate network zones and lifecycle environments.
Examples of such experience could include:
- Experience supporting the design, implementation, and management of enterprise IT resources to meet the needs of development teams and customers is key; AND
- Experience with scaling resources, monitoring utilization and performance, and identifying and resolving issues; AND
- Experience with ensuring security and regulatory compliance of enterprise applications and services; AND
- Experience as a systems administrator in multitier infrastructures.

In addition to meeting specialized experience, applicants must have proficiency in each of the four competencies listed below.
- Attention to Detail, such as supporting metrics collection and reporting in conjunction with service level monitoring.
- Customer Service, such as providing around the clock support for IT services.
- Oral Communication, such as conducting and participating in briefings and meetings on job-related subjects to peers and leadership throughout an organization.
- Problem Solving, such as providing incident / problem management for an organization.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-12, you must have been at the GS-11 level for 52 weeks.
