The incumbent is the Environmental Health (EH) Coordinator for a variety of environmental agent and CHAMPVA programs under Health Administration Service (HAS). This position is assigned to the Chief of Patient Processing and Benefits Section, and will report to the Enrollment and Eligibility's Special Programs Unit.

Duties

Major duties include, but not limited to: Coordinates all administrative information among professional staff, other VA Medical Centers, VBA service officers, and the veteran. Provides oral explanation of registry programs and examination processes to Gulf War Veterans. Responds to veterans' questions and concerns with compassion and sensitivity. Distributes Environmental Agency Service (EAS) handouts and fact sheets relevant to veterans' military service and claimed exposures (e.g., Agent Orange, Persian Gulf War environmental agents, Ionizing Radiation). Maintains up-to-date information on all environmental registry examination programs. Encourages eligible veterans to undergo initial registry examinations when applying for treatment at VA. Ensures completion of the registry examination code sheets, scheduling of appointments, monitoring strict time frame compliance, reviewing medical records for accuracy and completeness. Keeps line of communication open between environmental physicians and the veteran. Identify CHAMPVA beneficiaries and process their applications for program eligibility. Offers guidance and clarification on covered and non-covered benefits through the CHAMPVA program. Ensure that visits for CHAMPVA beneficiaries are billed through the Health Administration Service (HAS). Performs other duties assigned. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/16/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS-06 grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. To qualify for this position at the GS-07 level, you must have: At least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in the Federal Service that has equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the Program Support Assistant position. Examples of specialized experience are: receiving and directing telephone calls and greeting visitors. Preparing correspondence, reports, and other documents based on information gathered from program files or other records. Establishing and maintaining program files and records. Knowledge of various office automation software, processing procedures, and function keys to produce a wide range of documents, such as graphics or tables within text, editing and reformatting electronic drafts, and updating and revising existing databases or spreadsheets. Knowledge of standard office equipment, such as computers, copiers, fax machines, and office automation systems to perform a substantial range of office automation support. Proper use of grammar, spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and commonly used specialized terminology to prepare written material correctly. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Computer SkillsCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Knowledge Management Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work area is usually an adequately lighted, heated and ventilated office of medical facility setting. The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions. The sedentary and may require some walking, standing, bending, carrying and/or lifting of light items like papers or books. The work requires light to moderate levels/times performing keyboarding to prepare correspondence.
