This position is located within the Orthopedics/Podiatry Practice of the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in Bronx, New York. This position functions organizationally as a Practice Manager. Together with the Practice Chief, the position plans, organizes, and directs all administrative, operational, patient care and personnel activities for the Practice assigned.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Evaluates systems to enhance Practice productivity as well as provider productivity; Performs needs analysis, data analysis, and utilization reviews in order to forecast and plan future needs of the Practice; Prepares monthly workload statements; Ensures that waiting times in clinical areas are within established standards; Develops and maintains management information reporting for the Practice, including measures of patient volume, patient demographics, utilization trends, productivity and profitability; Monitors Practice expenditures and utilization of personnel; Develops and implements the Performance Improvement Program for the Practice; Oversees work of subordinates; Sets and adjusts short term priorities; Assigns work and evaluates work performance; Resolves informal complaints of employees; Approves leave requests; Recommends promotions, reassignments, or other changes of assigned personnel; Performs other duties as assigned Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:00am-4:30pm Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: May be authorized for highly qualified candidates Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not approved Financial Disclosure Report: Not Required

Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-9 grade level, you must also meet at least ONE of the following Minimum Qualification requirements: Specialized Experience: You must have one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-7) in Federal service that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is directing administrative, operational, patient care and personnel activities for the Practice assigned; implementing performance improvement programs for the practice based on clinical outcomes and measures; overseeing daily work and outcomes; setting performance standards; and evaluating employee performance. Note: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hour worked per week. ~OR~ Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level, you must possess a master's or equivalent degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. NOTE: Transcripts must be submitted with your application materials. You must have a combination of specialized experience and education beyond 1 year of graduate level education. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Analytical ReasoningLead or SuperviseOrganizational Performance AnalysisProblem Solving IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary, requiring some walking, bending, lifting and filing. In addition, there may be some carrying of light items, such as papers and books. The work is performed in and around a clinical setting.
