About the Position: This position is located at the Maneuver Center of Excellence (MCOE), Moore, Ga. The MCOE is located 100 miles south of Atlanta, Georgia, and is adjacent to Columbus, Georgia and Phenix City, Alabama.

Duties

Serves as Benefits Coordinator for the eligible beneficiaries under the supervision of the CAC supervisor and in close coordination with the Support Coordinator and Financial Counselor. Reviews current federal and state laws to determine families’ benefits and entitlements due i.e., Servicemembers' Life Group Insurance (SGLI), Death Gratuity (DG), and other benefits. Stays current on all statutory changes in entitlement programs, analyzes effects on Survivor benefits and ensures changes are publicized. Maintains an understanding of the Survivor Benefits Program (SBP) and the interaction of Federal Benefits. Assists other Casualty employees (i.e. Operations Manager, Mortuary Affairs Coordinator, Memorial Affairs Coordinator, and Training Instructor). Counsels on benefits provided by law; explaining the integration of Federal benefits (or the impact of one Federal benefit over another). Interacts with various service casualty operations programs such as DEERS, Tricare, Local and State Resources and Office of Service members Group Life Insurance to ensure family inquiries are resolved in a timely and effective manner. Coordinates with the Department of Veteran Affairs and other Federal agencies to ensure eligible beneficiaries receive all entitlements (i.e. Dependency Indemnity Compensation (DIC), Social Security Benefits). Serves as a Casualty Case Manager.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) Counseling next of kin of fallen Active-Duty Soldiers on benefits provided by federal law, (2) Coordinating with organizations such as the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS), American Red Cross, and Army Emergency Relief for assistance on behalf of the next of kin of fallen Soldiers (i.e., Active Duty, Retirees, and Veterans) (3) Providing advice and guidance on benefits, rights and assistance available under federal, state, or local programs such as Mortuary, Veterans administration (VA) and Social Security benefits to all Survivors. (i.e., Active Duty, Retirees, and Veterans) and (4) Briefing Active-Duty Soldiers on their duties and responsibilities to serve as Casualty Assistance Officers and/or Casualty Notification Officers. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Human Resources. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
