About the Position: Serves as a Medical Assistant (MA) for Ambulatory Care. Performs patient care as directed by Womack Army Medical Center (WAMC) and clinic regulations, policies and procedures. Operates within the scope of practice of a Medical Assistant in any of several Primary Care areas to include, Family Medicine Clinic, Community Based Medical Homes (CBMH) and Soldier Care Medical Homes, Army Health Clinics and Troop Medical Clinics.

Duties
Make entries on MHS Genesis, and Tri-Service Workflow Form (TSWF) and other required databases.
Perform general maintenance duties including cleaning and arranging supply carts, cleaning and sorting supplies, instruments, and equipment.
Instruct patients and families on various subjects, such as the proper procedure or following receipt of immunization in accordance with established protocols.
Restock supplies necessary to conduct patient care and clinic operations.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Child Care Background is required for this position in accordance with DODI 1402.5 (e) enclosure 5; memorandum dated March 6, 1992 Subject
"Criminal History Background Checks on Employees in Childcare Services".
- Must obtain and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification from the American Heart Association or Military Training
Network.
- This position requires successful completion of pre-placement and annual medical examinations.
- This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience or education requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience and Education Substitution Requirements:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing proper blood collection techniques and equipment to collect appropriate specimen for testing; preparing bodily fluids by sorting, measuring, and/or labeling specimen to be sent for standardized testing; performing clerical duties such as assisting with patient inquiries or preparing paperwork for laboratory work within a medical treatment facility.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
OR
Education: Four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as, phlebotomy, chemistry, microbiology, and hematology.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
Applicant who have held a General Schedule (GS) position with the last 52 weeks may not be promoted more that 2 grades with the preceding 52 weeks.
