The New Mexico VA Health Care System is currently recruiting for a Prosthetic Clerk located in a Veteran Health Administration (VHA) facility at the Prosthetics Service line in Albuquerque, NM. The incumbent serves as the Data Entry/Office Clerk in the Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service(P&SAS) of the New Mexico Healthcare System. The incumbent will greet and screen visitors to the office in order to assist or direct them to the proper person/location.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Greet and screens visitors to the office in order to assist or direct them to the proper person.
Answer telephone calls from the P&SAS's main telephone line in a courteous and professional manner.
Assist with telephone inquiries and/or directs patients to the appropriate staff member.
Review and distributes electronic P&SAS consults to appropriate purchasing agent.
Assist veterans by issuing them appropriate requested items available in stock.
Post items issued from stock and completes the consult for services rendered in the P&SAS package.
Receive/reviews and distributes in-coming mail to appropriate personnel. Incumbent assists purchasing agents with packaging and mailing of supplies to veteran's residence.
Provide administration and clerical support to the P&SAS.
Meets the needs of the customers while supporting VA missions.
Communicate and treats customers i.e. veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.
Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Physical Requirements: Some walking is involved in collecting documentation/data needed to be recorded. The P&SAS storage room maybe located upstairs or nearby in the same building and would require some walking and going up and down one flight of stairs throughout the day. The position will require some lifting and stretching in obtaining stock items, files, document, printer paper, office supplies. The greatest portion of this position is repetitive typing on a computer keyboard, and glare from the computer monitor. Incumbent when needed may be required to change ink cartridges in his/her printer, adding paper to the copier machine. Incumbent may be required to lift packages weighing up to 25 pounds and not to exceed 50 without assistance.

GS-05 grade level:
Specialized Experience One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Managing and organizing patient information; Performing administrative duties; Providing customer service to patients in a medical care setting.

Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 4-year course of study above high school.
OR
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education that equates to 100 hundred percent.
