About the Position: As an Engineering Technician (Civil), the incumbent will create BIM/CAD 2D or 3d models, and will prepare contract drawings used for the construction or rehabilitation of complex locks, dams, or recreation areas. This position is located in Pittsburgh, PA.

Duties

Plans, executes, and reviews complex and unusual drawings which involve the integration of drawings from a variety of engineering and architectural areas. Develop accurate CAD/BIM 2D and 3D models, site plans, cross sections, elevations and details of locks, dams, or other similar infrastructure. Assists engineers in designs for maintenance, repair, and construction projects. Prepares complete BIM/CAD design drawings for award of these engineering projects. Analyze drawings to determine their adequacy in terms of meeting design intent and providing plans from which a project can be constructed. Maintains flow and quality of work to assure timely completion of assigned work and making day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities. Effectively communicate with project team members to develop an in-depth understanding of project deliverables, schedule, and budget.

General and/or Specialized Experience GS 04: Six months of general experience (1) in any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with in drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems AND six months of specialized experience which includes provided beginner level utilization of Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD), Auto CAD or MicroStation and automated computing systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-03). OR Education: Two years of education above the high school level that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics. [At least 3 of the 12 semester hours must have been in drafting if the position has been designated by a drafting area of specialization.] OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. Specialized Experience for GS-05: One year of specialized experience which includes assist with developing and design assignments using Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD), Auto CAD or MicroStation and automated computing systems. OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; OR (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. Specialized Experience for GS-06: One year of specialized experience which includes assist with developing and design assignments using Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD), Auto CAD or MicroStation and automated computing systems, and beginner level utilizing 3D models for the development of site projects.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Specialized Experience for GS-08: One year of specialized experience which includes completing technical and design assignments using Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD), Auto CAD or MicroStation and automated computing systems, assisting with utilizing 3D models for the development of site projects, supporting the creation of contract plans and quantity estimates, and supporting the creation of civil site projects ( e.g. roads, parking lots, water/wastewater upgrades, repairs to major civil works projects, recreation facilities, river bank protection, storm sewer, and other water-related projects.).This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). Specialized Experience for GS-09: One year of specialized experience which includes completing drawing preparation in the production of civil site projects, contract plans and quantity estimates; utilizing 3D models and some advanced operation of Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD), Auto CAD and/or MicroStation and computing systems.
