About the Position: This position is located in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Regional Inland Navigation Design Production Center, located in Pittsburgh, PA. The Advanced CAD/BIM Modeler positions serves as a regional expert and assists regional team of engineers and technicians in development of complex / multi-disciple 3D models of inland navigation locks and dam projects.
Duties
Develops, updates and maintains complex/multi-disciplinary 3D models and details of complex drawing packages for items such as plan layouts, isometric views, and cross-sectional views of inland navigation locks and dams and their appurtenances.
Creates, modifies, deletes, transfers, copies, stores, and maintains 3D model files involving inland navigation locks and dam or other civil works engineering features.
Maintains a thorough knowledge of and provides input on advanced ProjectWise workspace, CADD workstation hardware, CADD 3D and Building Information Modeling software (BIM), operational techniques and standards.
Functions as an advanced CAD/BIM modeler / senior technician, planning jobs, coordinating major complex drawing packages for construction and reviewing the work of less experienced technicians.
Mentor lessor experienced technicians and/or engineers in 3D modeling and drawing package development.
Reviews As-Builts and systematically checks for discrepancies, anomalies, duplications, and non-conformance to AEC standards and Data Management Plans (DMPs).
Serves on regional teams.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes managing the implementation of a specific type of critical software that is used to generate design documents; experience in managing the Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) processes including implementing new standards, software, leading multi-disciplined teams, providing technical direction and guidance, trouble-shooting, preparation of operating protocol, etc; experience in the integration of BIM and Computer Aided Design & Drafting (CADD) into business, design practices, processes, leading teams in 3D coordination and document development; and a well versed working knowledge of REVIT, Inventor, AutoCAD, Civil 3D Navisworks, MicroStation and ProjectWise (or similar) software. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
