This position is in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid- Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), VA Fayetteville Coastal Health Care System, Medicine Service, Fayetteville, NC. The incumbent assigned to this position is responsible for administrative, clerical, training activities, and program support duties which support the work of the Chief, Medicine Service and Administrative Officer.

Duties

Major duties includes but are not limited to: Ensures complete scopes of practice exist for all Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners within Medicine Service and for completing documentation on all Board actions for staff members. Prepares all personnel action data on Title 38 and Title 5 employees within Medical Service. Prepares worksheets and compensation panel forms for new physicians and bi-annual reviews of all medicine physicians, coordinates with Chief of Staff's office to arrange review boards, and submits to Human Resources for action. Serves as control point clerk for all Medicine Service fund control points. Composes correspondence and ensures accuracy of information, proper composition, proper format, and whether such correspondence conforms to current VA policies, instructions, and regulations. Analyzes procedures, methods, reporting requirements to eliminate duplication, improve procedures, reduce waste, and improve methods of operation. Serves as training coordinator for the service. Provides orientation for Medical Service personnel, management, supervisors, ancillary service employees, residents, and students in the use of computer programs. Trains new members of the service on computer software, i.e., VISTA, Outlook, CPRS, VISTA Imaging, and Clinical Reminders; Maintains and organizes files and data generated by the service. Prepares key requests for staff assigned to Medicine Service and personnel outside of the service. Ensures proper maintenance and use of office equipment (photocopy machine and Fax); Prepares space requests, coordinates with appropriate services and enters work orders to establish or relocate workspaces for Medicine service staff. Perform other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/05/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. Proficiency Requirement: Clerk-Typist, Office Automation Clerk/Assistant and Positions with Parenthetical Titles of (Typing), (Office Automation) Clerk-Typist, GS-2/4; Office Automation Clerk/ Assistant (any grade); (Typing) (any grade); and (Office Automation) (any grade): require 40 words per minute typing speed. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Experience processing personnel actions to include, policy, compensation, terminations, appointments. Trains new employees and determine training needs. Track and compile data and statistical information and provide assistant to staff on software and hardware issues. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary. Some walking stooping and bending may be required. On occasion incumbent may carry light books, papers, and computer printouts to and from meetings.
