About the Position: Serve as a Security Specialist in the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-9 and the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy and Environment.
Duties
Provide support to the Division Chief on multidiscipline security programs, including physical security, personnel security, information security, anti-terrorism/force protection, and operations security (OPSEC).
Collaborate with personnel security processes, including initiation of background investigations, and tracking investigation statuses.
Develop plans and conduct comprehensive multi-discipline security and emergency preparedness reviews and analysis of planning activities for day-to-day operations and special events.
Conduct an analytical workforce analysis based on observations and recommendations, and advise the mission commanders and security elements during events.
Collaborate with Pentagon Force Protection Agency and other events requiring security planning, which includes site surveys, route planning, threat analysis, and consequence management.
Analyze, develop, and conduct inclusive reviews, continually update, and coordinate all related SOPs and support plans for security matters.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Top Secret security clearance for duration of employment.
- This is a testing designated position. Employees must pass drug testing prior to hiring and will be subject to ongoing periodic and random testing thereafter, in accordance with Army Regulation 600-85.
- Occasional travel, up to 5% of the time, may be required.
- This position requires the incumbent obtain the following core SPeD Certification: Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) within their first two years of employment.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education/specialized experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience, GS-12: Assist in conducting security inspections; conduct security briefings; assist in coordinating security training for staff; initiate background investigations which includes tracking investigation statuses. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11)
To qualify for the GS-11 level: Applicants must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09.
Specialized experience is defined as:
Experience performing a wide range of Personnel Security, Physical Security and Information Security duties and reviewing, analyzing, and resolving difficult and complex security requirements or problems dealing with policies and security programs.

You must have successfully completed a Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as Security Administration. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

You must have the specialized experience as described above, but less than one year; and I have at least two years of graduate education as described in B, but less than the required three years. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
