You will serve as an IT SPECIALIST (SYSADMIN/INFOSEC) in the UNIX & Server Branch (10913), IT Infrastructure and Operations Division (1091), Information Technology & Cyber Security (ITACS) Office 109 of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will monitor and analyze applicable hardware and software resources and logs for issues, and recommending and implementing solutions that correct and improve conditions, and optimize efficiency of the system. You will ensure the rigorous application of information security/IA policies, principles, and practices in the delivery of workstation, server and storage services, network, and application and database IT services. You will implement and maintains expertise in the state-of-the-art IT equipment. In addition, you will manage data storage, including optimization of hardware and software and administration. You will analyze, diagnose, and correct recurring and emergency problems and faults with shipyard operating system’s software, hardware, and firmware, or initiate vendor corrective action, as appropriate, in order to restore normal operations. You will develop and maintain metrics/dashboards to provide visibility and context needed by internal and external stakeholders. You will participate in development of specifications for procurement of new IT equipment/software, oversee vendor installation, and evaluate testing and acceptance. You will Develop and document Standard Operating Procedures for area of responsibility (e.g., installation/maintenance of hardware/software/firmware including servers, storage and backup devices, workstations and peripheral devices. You will provide support necessary to maintain network accreditation packages. Planning and implementing lifecycle maintenance (LCM) for hardware and software.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position is designated as a Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce position. You must obtain and maintain the credentials as described in SECNAV M-5239.2 for specialty area System Administrator level Intermediate within 12 months of appointment.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience implementing extensive knowledge of the latest Virtual Server and Workstation software/hardware infrastructure. Experience being an expert with the latest enterprise level Backup Software technologies, such as Backup Exec or Symantec NetBackup. Experience implementing extensive knowledge of Storage Architecture and skill in implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of storage systems. Experience with the technical functional responsibilities of the various shipyard departments and offices at Norfolk Naval Shipyard and their interrelationships with NNSY employees, supervisors and managers to ensure seamless implementation and installation of new products or equipment; to resolve installation problems; to initiate corrective or preventive actions; to identify, make corrections, and mitigate security violations and risks. Experience being considered an expert in IT security principles and methods, analytical ability and communication techniques sufficient to update the shipyard's disaster recovery plans to respond to new security requirements and be able to advise and present plans to IT management for review and approval. Your experience must reflect skill in the following areas: attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem solving.
