You will serve as a Lead Engineering Technician (Mechanical) in the Engineering Department, (Code 251 - Fire Protection Systems, Auxiliaries and Oil Pollution Abatement) of SOUTHWEST REGIONAL MAINTENANCE CENTER.

Duties

You will serve as the technical Coordinator and lead subject matter expert for Auxiliaries and Pollution Abatement equipment with responsibility for functional checkout, test and inspection of major systems. You will conduct independent engineering studies, investigations, research and analysis for the solution of unusual or unprecedented engineering problems. You will coordinate background investigations and research into complex machinery equipment and system problems to enable ships to meet overhaul, operational or deployment commitments. You will provide expert repair guidance to include thorough risk analysis and repair options and advises the maintenance team of methods of solving problems based on analyses. You will ensure that the organization’s strategic plan, mission, vision and values are communicated to the team and integrated into the team’s strategies, goals, objectives, work plans and work products and services. You will monitor and report on the status and progress of work, reviewing completed work to see that the supervisor’s instructions on work priorities, methods, deadlines and quality have been met. You will provide technical assistance when requested, to include design, material support, installation, operational procedures, training, manning and tools. You will leads the team in identifying, distributing and balancing workload and tasks among employees in accordance with established workflow, skill level and or occupational specialization. You will provide assistance, oversight and authoritative technical or engineering guidance to ship repair facilities and Naval Shipyards in resolution of repair, overhaul, or testing problems.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government passport.
  • This position requires shift work.
  • This position may require work aboard ships.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain Delegated Technical Authority from the SWRMC Chief Engineer (CHENG) in a limited scope commensurate with their assigned subject matter within one (1) year of onboarding.

Qualifications

GS-13: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-12) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: planning and coordinating mechanical engineering technical support and project guidance for ship inspection, repair and testing of major systems (e.g.,Waste water, Sewage (CHT/VCHT), Oil Pollution Abatement (OPA), Oily Waste separator (OWS) and associated pumps, valves and piping distribution system) to maintain operational readiness.
