You will serve as a LEAD ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (MECHANICAL) in the ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT, (CODE 254) of SOUTHWEST REGIONAL MAINTENANCE CENTER.
Duties
You will serve as Technical Coordinator and Lead Subject Matter Expert for Hydraulics, Hydraulic Controls, and Piping Systems with responsibility for functional checkout, test and inspection of major systems.
You will provide and coordinate immediate authoritative technical assistance on urgent mission-degrading CASREPs as well as less urgent, complex technical problems and supports shipboard assessments as assigned.
You will conduct independent engineering studies, investigations, research and analysis for the solution of unusual or unprecedented engineering problems or in support of short and long-term engineering projects
You will coordinate background investigations and research into complex machinery equipment and system problems to enable ships to meet overhaul, operational or deployment commitments.
You will monitor and report on the status and progress of work and ensure that the supervisor?s instructions on work priorities, methods, deadlines and quality have been met.
You will be responsible for the technical accuracy and adequacy of all tasks accomplished by senior and junior personnel on the numerous and varied types of complex equipment within their area of responsibility.
You will prepare and directs the development of technical reports and correspondence related to specific work projects on assigned ships, which may include concise and technical recommendations.
You will review technical inputs prepared by personnel to ensure compliance with administrative and procedural requirements
You will provide assistance, oversight and authoritative technical engineering guidance to ship repair facilities and Naval Shipyards in resolution of repair, overhaul or testing problems.
You will anticipate and solve technical difficulties, acting independently in attacking and resolving problems and making significant technical decisions

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain Delegated Technical Authority from the SWRMC CHENG in a limited scope commensurate with their assigned subject matter within one (1) year of onboarding.
- You may be required to work onboard ships.
- You may be required to climbing up vertical ladders.
- You may be required to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government passport.
- You will be required to perform occasional sea duty.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-12) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: planning and coordinating mechanical engineering technical support and project guidance for ship inspection, repair and testing of major systems (e.g., Hydraulics, Hydraulic Controls, and Piping System equipment) to maintain operational readiness.
