You will serve as a SUPERVISORY ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the SUBS/COMBAT SYSTEMS or AUXILIARY SYSTEMS DIVISION, ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT of SOUTHWEST REGIONAL MAINTENANCE CENTER (SWRMC).

Duties

You will promote readiness and maintenance self-sufficiency in shipboard systems and equipment by providing facilities and manpower to effect routine and complex repairs. You will direct support in troubleshooting, maintenance and repair, on-the-job training, and technical documentation support for systems installed aboard ships and submarines. You will organize, direct, and evaluate the performance of a workforce composed of approximately 100 engineers, technicians, military, and clerical personnel. You will coordinate the efforts of the branches, determine resource needs of the division, allocate personnel resources between the branches according to workload and technical demands, and account for their effective use. You will determine the need for and develop plans for employee personnel development, mentorship, and career progression opportunities that have major retention impacts to the department and command. You will communicate and coordinate efforts with external organizations involved with broad aspects of shipboard systems to resolve major issues of funding, workload or interrelationships. You will establish goals and objectives for the division, aligning with department and command goals and objectives, develop plans for accomplishment of these goals, and measure progress toward the goals. You will work with a variety of programs that require an evaluation and resolution of highly complex technical problems which have no precedent on which to base a solution. You will assess the impact on shipboard systems when substantive developments in related programs and policies occur. You will be required to obtain delegated technical authority from the SWRMC Chief Engineer and By Direction Signature Authority from the SWRMC Commanding Officer within a required timeframe.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is considered Key/Non-Combat Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support of the expeditionary requirements in other than combat or combat support situations.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: leading or overseeing technical engineering projects for the testing, repair, maintenance or modernization of ships or ships systems.
