You will serve as a Combat Systems Alignment Lead Engineering Technician in Code 287 of the Engineering Department of SOUTHWEST REGIONAL MAINTENANCE CENTER. You'll serve as a regional technical authority and Subject Matter Expert providing direct support for complex and extensive equipment on a variety of U.S. Navy, Military Sealift Command and U.S. Coast Guard platforms covered within SWRMC's Area of Responsibility and other locations as assigned.

Duties

You will conduct independent engineering studies, investigations, research and analysis for the solution of unusual or unprecedented engineering problems or in support of short and long-term engineering projects. You will develop and coordinate technical training both within and outside of the SWRMC Engineering Department. You will review complex technical engineering design changes and development proposals submitted by the contractors for sound marine technical engineering practices and techniques in keeping with Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) requirements. You will Initiate and implement process improvement initiatives including developing or evaluating improvements in design, maintenance procedures, material, fleet training, etc. You will serve as the technical coordinator and lead subject matter expert for Combat Systems Alignment and related equipment with responsibility for functional checkout, test and inspection of major systems. You will lead the team in identifying, distributing and balancing workload and tasks among employees in accordance with established workflow, skill level and/or occupational specialization.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
  • You will be required to perform occasional sea duty.
  • This position requires the ability to work onboard ships.
  • This position requires the ability to climb ladders and scaffolding.
  • This position requires the ability to work in small and/or confined spaces.
  • This position requires extensive experience in Combat Systems Alignment.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing technical engineering duties (e.g. assembly, testing, data documentation, troubleshooting, equipment repair) and evaluating project requirements related to combat systems to provide technical guidance and resolve issues to ensure mission readiness.
