You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH MANAGER located at TRIDENT TRAINING FAC, BANGOR.

Duties

You will perform safety reviews and evaluations for course modifications and new high risk training evolutions. You will conduct Safety and Occupational Health surveys to evaluate the safety programs for risks or hazards in workplaces, facilities and operations (e.g., industrial, warehouse, maintenance, range, tactical safety). You will verify safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, and environmental concerns are considered for industrial activities and hazardous material (HAZMAT) compliance. You will conduct root cause analysis of personal injury and industrial mishaps to identify contributing factors and recommend preventive measures You will collaborate and consult with other safety specialists (e.g., industrial hygienists, occupational health specialists, medical staff) to share best practices, resolve problems, and develop more effective approaches.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1. Utilize safety and occupational health practices and procedures, public safety law, regulations and precedent decisions pertaining to High-Risk Training safety as related to maintenance, transportation, storage, and use of high explosives. 2. Develop or extend, recommend, and execute safety practices that will control or eliminate unsafe conditions critically affecting the command?s training mission. 3. Plan and administer a comprehensive safety inspection program according electrical and electronic maintenance and fire prevention practices and procedures. and 4. Coordinate the control of hazardous situations arising from industrial operations and High-Risk Training evolutions. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
OR
Successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
OR

A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
