The position is located in Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Washington D.C .
The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) gives anyone the right to access Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) records unless the information in those records is protected by one or more of the nine exemptions (reasons an agency may withhold records from a requester).
We expect to fill 2 vacancies at this time; however, additional positions may be filled from this announcement if they become available.
Duties
In this position, the Government Information Specialist will perform duties such as:
Reviewing extremely complex Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests;
Performing extensive information searches,
Reviewing records, and developing comprehensive FOIA responses; and
Providing information to the BLM's FOIA Officer, and Solicitor's Office, including the Department's FOIA Appeals Officer, upon request.

- This is a Bargaining Unit position.
- You cannot hold an active real estate license; nor can you have an interest or hold stocks in firms with interest in Federal Land.
Qualifications
You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples:
Preparing final response letters/correspondence to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA);
Developing policies, standards, or guidance related to government information accessibility.
Providing technical assistance or training to other on the timelines and/or appropriateness of requested/released information.
Collaborating with other agencies or legal representatives to reach a consensus regarding the protection and release of information; and
Reviewing records and drafting Complex/Difficult FOIA/PA responses.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
