About the Position: Serves as a Animal Health Training Instructor in the Animal Medicine Branch, AMEDDC&S, located in Ft. Sam Houston, Texas.

Duties

Performs instructor duties or assists higher graded instructors and technicians with conducting the training of Soldiers in a wide variety topics related to Animal Care. Responsible for routine equipment maintenance of laboratory equipment, supply and set up of equipment and for laboratory cleanup and sanitation. Provides detailed explanations of subject material being delivered and demonstrations or illustrations as necessary and administers different exercises and exams to students. Responsible for laboratory equipment and supply set up and providing veterinary technician support with anesthetizing and monitoring anesthetized animals in laboratory training classes.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination; capable to lift animals up to 75 lbs; to include prolonged standing, stooping, and bending.
• Incumbent requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
• Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 50% of the time.
• Incumbent must not be adverse to animal euthanasia.
• May require working/training in inclement weather.

Assist in the review of training/ course materials, aids, devices, etc. Administer a training program and evaluate training results. Work in the occupation or subject matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis. Assist in the physical exams of various types of animals. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Education. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
