The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an IT Specialist exercising responsibility as Headquarters AFSOC, Control and Communications security specialist, and Security Control Assessor (SCA); Leads Air Force efforts to secure platforms and SOCOM IT Systems against cyber and insider threats.
Duties
Manages AFSOC cybersecurity for all AF Special Operations IT and Special Operations Command, Control, Computer weapons systems within AOR.
Develops policies, guidance, and technical requirements for completing system cybersecurity risk assessments.
As a Special Operations Security Control Assessor, completes "Authorization to Operate" and cybersecurity processes required in support of SOCOM and AFSOC Systems, in accordance with DoD, SOCOM, and AF guidance.
Represents AFSOC at a variety of cybersecurity forums and exercises.

- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented lnformation (SCl).
- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
- This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
- This position includes Information Assurance (IA) work as a paramount duty requirement. Per DoD 8570.01-M, the incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six (6) months within assignment of these duties.

EXPERIENCE: Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving AND one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-12 (or equivalent in other pay systems) which includes: Applying Special Operations IT system security principles, methods, regulations, policies, products, and services sufficient to interpret and/or develop specifications to ensure agency compliance with system security requirements; Application of a wide range of IT and communication security techniques, requirements, methods, and procedures such as INFOSEC, AFEKMS, COMSEC, EMSEC, and STU II Automated Software security; Monitoring and evaluating system compliance with NC3 and Special Operations IT security requirements.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-12 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Mastery of and skill in applying a full range of IT security principles, concepts, practices, products, services, and policy (including systems software, database software, immediate access storage technology), and methods for evaluating risk and vulnerability, implementing mitigating improvement, and disseminations security tools and procedures.
Knowledge of authorization and assessment of IT systems, new or revised security measures, and countermeasures based on the results of authorization reviews.
Knowledge of LAN and WAN system security requirements and techniques for protecting computer and information systems from cyber threats.
Ability to review and assess new systems, devices, platforms, etc. for potential security risks and make sound recommendations in support of the Risk Management Framework process.
Ability to research, analyze, and advise of AF Special Operations aircraft, programs, missions, and requirements in support of unit or staff assignments with an AF or Joint Operations environment, in the area of Communications and Information, Operations, Intelligence, or deployment on contingency operations.
Ability to communicate both orally and in writing, clearly, concisely, with technical accuracy and negotiate complex issues.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
