About the Position: This position is located at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. The incumbent will be responsible for developing and overseeing environmental programs for the Army Materials Command (AMC) Commanding General.

Duties

Serves as the Army Materiel Command G4 (Logistics, Facilities, and Environment Directorate) Chief of Environment and Energy Division Principle advisor to the AMC G-4 and Commanding General in establishing environmental and energy policies and strategies that supports and transforms the AMC's environmental and energy programs. Notifies and reports accidents, spills, and releases of hazardous materials to higher headquarters, regulatory agencies, and others in a timely manner. Provides technical information to the Public Affairs Office for preparing news releases, answering inquiries and adhering to the commander's policy of "speaking with one voice." Serves as the technical expert for matters pertaining to human health and environmental protection along with energy initiatives across AMC installations. Ensures reviews of construction projects for safety, health, and environmental hazard abatement projects. Overall authority and responsibility for planning, directing, supervising, and administering all technical and operational aspects of a comprehensive integrated hazard management program. Serves as the Commander's principal action officer to oversee the implementation of approved recommendations and taskings from the AR 200-1. Provides oversight to the Army and AMC Commander's Climate Strategy Action Plan. Supervises the development and implementation of long-range goals, objectives, plans and requirements for climate change, energy programs, and environmental safety and health for the Command. Organizes inspections of facilities by multidisciplinary teams to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Administers all technical and operational aspects of a comprehensive integrated hazard management program. Establish and adjust long range schedules, priorities and deadlines for regular and special work assignments; and coordinates work schedules among subordinate units. Assign and explain work requirements to subordinate levels of supervision for new or changed programs, functions, goals and processes. Selects or recommends selection of key employees.

  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience at the GS-14 grade level which includes:1) Provide supervisory oversight and subject-matter expert advice for the design, modification, operation and maintenance of facilities to ensure compliance with climate change and energy and environmental initiatives and regulations; 2) Incorporate laws pertaining to storage/disposal of hazardous wastes and medical wastes to ensure compliance and safety in environmental programs; 3) federal environmental laws and regulations (i.e. NEPA); 4) Prepare technical reports for inspections, investigations and remedial actions; and 5) Advise management on how energy and environmental policies/procedures will affect operations.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-14). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
