About the Position: Environmental Protection Specialist with program responsibility for the environmental programs.
Duties
Serve as an Environmental Protection Specialist with program responsibility for Implementation of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Preliminary Assessment Screening (PAS) reviews.
Plan, program and oversight of natural resources management for resource protection to include ecology, endangered species, botanical, wildlife resources, forestry and flood plains.
Technical review and evaluation of site categorizations, site approvals, and land use issues.
Plan, organize and direct assigned endangered species programs for the installation; and prepares any plans or correspondence required to comply with Federal and State laws, as required.
Professional and scientific administration, direction, or control over program, regulatory activities, projects or operations concerning assigned conservation and management of natural resources.
Serve as environmental reviewing authority on natural resources and/or land management programs.
Serve as staff consultant to command group, project managers, directorates and all command activities in establishing requirements for dealing with construction design and environmental impacts.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience:
One year of specialized experience which includes reviewing and implementing environmental programs relating to the management of natural resources and ecology and review of environmental documentation to ensure accuracy.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
