This position serves as the Beneficiary Travel Coordinator for the VA Portland Healthcare System (VAPORHCS) and all Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) attached to the facility. Key duties include coordinating travel arrangements, counseling veterans and staff to ensure cost effectiveness, partnering with community to identify additional travel resources, adjudicating claims, resolving claims disputes, and educating veterans, families, and VA Staff of travel benefits.

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** This position can be filled in either location Portland, Oregon or Vancouver, Washington. Major Duties and Responsibilities Include: Provide resources for veterans who need assistance with travel reimbursement or arrangements. Manage cost controls and investigate travel fraud and abuse. Determine eligibility for the program and process requests. Determine which of several fund control points to utilize, maintaining manual and electronic accounting records. Ensure accurate billing for vendor transportation contracts worth over $2,000,000 per year. Receive invoices for payment of transportation reimbursement and oversee the completion from processing to issuance of reimbursement to the beneficiary. Track and research all transactions pertaining to Beneficiary travel reimbursements and the validity of claims requested. Investigate authorizations, orders, and/or utilizes the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) to review medical records in order to investigate travel authorizations and orders. Submit validates documentation for payment utilizing appropriate fund control points. Partner with community resources to identify and use alternate modes of transportation. Make special arrangement per physician documentation according to traveler's medical condition, with a high priority emphasis on SCI (spinal cord injury), legally blind, and TBI (traumatic brain injury) patients. Document and prepare monthly account synopsis for contracting officials in Acquisition & Material Management Service quarterly to justify yearly ambulance contractual compliance. Performs other related duties as assigned. GS-6 Specialized Experience: One (1) year of specialized experience to perform the duties of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been gained to at least the equivalent of the next lower grade level of GS-5 in Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include: experience performing administrative/clerical functions related to travel regulations; experience determining eligibility for a travel program and explaining the regulations to those seeking access; and experience reviewing requests for reimbursement of travel costs for the purpose of assuring compliance with regulations and procedures, completeness, accuracy, consistency, and agreement with the basic authorization. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: AccountabilityClericalComputer SkillsCustomer Service IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work requires no special physical demands, but will require some physical effort such as standing, walking, bending, or sitting. The employee will be working in an office setting.
