Duties

You will provide direct technical support of Pacific Fleet ships operating west of the Mississippi River, in the Pacific Ocean, in the Indian Ocean, the Persian Gulf, and other locations as assigned. You will create, design, assess, analyze and interpret engineering guidelines, principles and practices to solve engineering problems. You will serve as the Project Team (PT) Project Support Engineer for the assigned ships or project area. You will perform complex engineering projects, tests, contract specifications, deviations, waivers, equipment/material substitutions, repair processes, drawing deficiencies, equipment malfunctions, other urgent Fleet technical support requirements. You will accomplish timely review of contractor work specifications ensuring the requirements of tasking documents are met, naval standards are invoked, and final acceptance testing will validate work performed. You will provide engineering technical services in support of ongoing waterfront production work at private contractor facilities. You will provide oversight of the contractor's technical performance of shipboard work for compliance to contract specifications. You will conduct independent engineering studies, investigations, research, and analysis for the solution of unusual or unprecedented engineering problems or in support of short and long-term engineering projects on assigned ships or project area.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Job Certification Requirement (JCR) for Project Support Engineers and CPR certification.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be willing and able to work onboard ships.

Qualifications

For the GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to theGS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector analyzing technical engineering work methods and procedures to provide project planning and technical direction for ship maintenance and repair projects in order to make recommendations that aim to resolve project barriers. For the GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing technical engineering work (e.g., testing, data documentation, research, troubleshooting, and equipment repair) and identifying technical issues with procedures, methods, and processes in support of ship maintenance and repair projects.
