The Dental Secretary position is in the Dental Service at the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the principal clerical and administrative support in the Dental Service and to carry out and coordinate all the clerical and day-to day activities of the service.
Duties
Maintains training records.
Manage multiple schedules and calendars. scheduling appointments, coordinate meetings and preparations with competing priorities.. Experience using a Purchase Card (i.e. documenting , reconciling, and tracking purchase card orders).
Fund Control Point Clerk Coordinator.
Applies office business practices and principles.
Coordinates and analyzes internal review activities of the service.
Maintains databases and filing systems.
Responsible on a day to day basis for coordinating and facilitating the functions of all services.
Establishes performance standards, evaluates performance and approve leave for service employees.
Provides and promotes good customer service to internal and external customers.
Coordinating budgetary actions, drafting spreadsheets, budget reports, and maintain up to date information.
Proficient in the use computer programs such a Microsoft, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
This position is covered by AFGE bargaining unit. Per the Master Agreement, the Area of Consideration will be: 1st Area of Consideration - Current permanent G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center employees including satellites; 2nd Area of Consideration - current permanent Veterans Healthcare Administration employees; 3rd Area of Consideration - current permanent VA Nationwide employees; 4th Area of consideration- All other Status Applicants.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:30am to 4pm; subject to change based on the needs of the facility.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/19/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS 5 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS 4. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS 4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Must have excellent time management skills and be able to multitask.
Patience, organization skills and a can-do attitude are important.
Experience in ordering equipment and supplies.
Must have computer skills. Working knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
Must have clerical experience, skill in pulling data.
Experience maintaining and prioritizing the manager's calendar.

Education: 4 years of education above the high school level. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED).
OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond high school education. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

Physical Demands:The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of the light items such as papers, files, books, medical records, etc. No special demands are required to perform the work.
Working Environment: The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require personal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
