You will serve as a LEAD ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT, CODE 200 REPRESENTING C264 DIESEL BRANCH of SOUTHWEST REGIONAL MAINTENANCE CENTER.

Duties

You will serve as a technical representative for shipboard, intermediate, and depot level assistance on problems beyond the capability of organizational level, Intermediate Maintenance Level Activities and/or ship repair facilities. You will serve as Technical Lead Subject Matter Expert for Main Propulsion Diesel Engines (MPDE), Ship Service Diesel Generators (SSDG) and related main and ancillary systems in main and auxiliary machinery plants. You will conduct independent engineering studies, investigations, research and analysis for the solution of unusual or unprecedented engineering problems. You will provide expert repair guidance to include thorough risk analysis and repair options and advises the maintenance team of methods of solving problems based on analyses. You will represent Southwest Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC) at conferences and seminars concerning maintenance policies, program initiatives, etc. for systems within the cognizance of the branch. You will develop and coordinate technical training both within and outside of the SWRMC Engineering Department. You will monitor and report on the status and progress of work, reviewing completed work to see that the Supervisor’s instructions on work priorities, methods, deadlines and quality have been met. You will provide oversight for the team in identifying, distributing and balancing workload and tasks among employees in accordance with established workflow, skill level or occupational specialization. You will be responsible for the technical accuracy and adequacy of all tasks accomplished by senior and junior personnel on the numerous and varied types of complex equipment. You will provide assistance, oversight and authoritative technical or engineering guidance to ship repair facilities and Naval Shipyards in resolution of repair or overhaul or testing problems.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
  • You will be required to perform occasional sea duty.
  • This position may require the ability to climb ladders.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • This position requires rotating shift work.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain Delegated Technical Authority from the SWRMC CHENG in a limited scope commensurate with Diesel Engines within one one year of onboarding.

Qualifications

For the GS-13: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-12) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: coordinating technical engineering support and project guidance for ship inspection, repair and testing of major systems (e.g., Main Propulsion Diesel Engine (MPDE), Ship Service Diesel Generator (SSDG)) to enable ships to meet overhaul or operational commitments.
