This position is highly diversified in the technically challenging duties that need to be executed. Many of the duties this incumbent will be performing would normally be conducted by clerical staff in the medical center. This incumbent is responsible, as expected, to provide secretarial duties related to management, coordination, evaluation and control of administrative activities.

Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to: Serves as the secretary to the Associate Chief of Staff, Geriatrics and Extended Care (GEC) of the Orlando VA Medical Center as well as the Program Support Assistant to the Chief Nurse, GEC. Provides personal administrative assistance to both the Associate Chief of Staff/GEC and Chief Nurse. Due to the sensitivity and classification of information and material dealt with during the day to day operation of the office, this position requires strict confidentiality be practiced by the incumbent. performs responsible duties to the management, coordination, evaluation, personnel administration and control of the Community Living Center (CLC). Provides comprehensive and effective administrative technical support and authority on personnel administration, admissions, non-VA hospitalizations, discharges, patient transports, decedent affairs to the medical-legal matters to the clinical services and a variety of office support functions in the CLC. Responsible for providing a full range of health administration to support include personnel administration, bed availability, processing knowledge for admissions, avenues for co-payment inquiries and knowledge of patient transportation procedures. Responsible for accurate Fund Control Point activity. Responsible for providing back up coverage for the Admissions Coordinator. Reviews and maintains all statistical reports and records systems for the GEC and CLC, including analysis of reports and data from CLC committees and other groups which are received in varying format or methods. Maintains and assists the staff in keeping accurate employee competency records. Advises the Associate Chief of Staff/Chief Nurse, GEC, on a wide variety of functions including, but not limited to, ADP related processes, work order processes and Medical Center committee access points. Performs all necessary duties to assist dignitaries visiting the CLC, arranges for all necessary accommodations, issues invitations and performs a variety of administrative assistance. Develops and modifies office procedures, provides authoritative advice to clerical employees throughout the VA Medical Center on proper office procedures, and recommends solutions to problems relating to the CLC. Performs other related duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday-Day Tour Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/08/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: Work is primarily sedentary. Some amount of time is spent, standing, walking, bending and lifting. Frequent trips throughout the CLC and Medical Center are required.
