About the Position: Incumbent serves as an Administrative/Legal Assistant by performing a variety of legal and administrative duties/responsibilities in support of the legal office staff.

Duties

Prepares correspondence, standard operating procedures, and legal documents in accordance with established guidelines with minimal supervision. Safeguard and maintain the confidentiality of legal office matters using tact and discretion nature when performing project of a critical, sensitive, or confidential. Maintains personnel, general correspondence, and legal office administrative files, time and attendance records, and legal office staff training files. Establishes and maintains hardcopy and electronic administrative and legal files and maintains the integrity of the data input into the system.

Requirements

  • Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes reviewing correspondence for grammatical errors; AND maintaining office calendars and schedules; AND providing customer services such as screening visitors, obtaining information, and/or clarifying facts. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Customer Service (Clerical/Technical)Manages and Organizes InformationTechnical CompetenceWriting Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
