This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Police Officers to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Police Staff may require shift work and/or work on rotating shifts to provide coverage on various situations. Day shift is: Mon - Thurs or Thurs - Sun 0530-1800, Night shift: Mon -Thurs or Thurs -Sun, 1730-0600. All shifts are 4 shifts per week 12.5 hours per shift. Shifts may rotate.
Duties
Serves as a Lead Police Officer (Sergeant) assigned under the authority of the Installation Commander.
Instructs employees in specific tasks and job techniques and provides on-the-job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures.
Takes required actions to resolve various incidents and requests additional support where necessary.
As a member of a tactical team, establishes an incident perimeter, contains terrorist activity, and executes a course of action to defeat attackers.
Performance of duties requires knowledge of established rules, procedures, methods of operations, and federal, state, and local laws.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires persons to carry a firearm, which requires initial and periodic qualification and meet the requirements under 18 USC 922(g)(9) of The Lautenberg Amendment.
- This position requires the incumbent to pass a physical agility test (PAT) annually.
- This position requires submission to a random urinalysis drug screening as well as pre-employment.
- This position requires a Secret Security Clearance.
- This position requires a valid state issued motor vehicle driver's license.
- This position requires that the incumbent graduated from an academy accredited by the U. S. Army Military Police School (USAMPS) Civilian Police Academy or receive an initial training waiver or be excepted per para 4-4 of the Army Regulation 190-56.
- This position is covered by the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) IAW AR 190-56 and has been designated by Department of Army as critical to the national or internal security. Personnel must meet the standards for the IRP.
- This position requires a certification in CPR techniques and First Aid.
- This position required the incumbent to be able to work shifts, overtime and weekends as required.
- This position has annual training and re-certification requirements.
- This position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315, subpart H.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
- In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) conducting preliminary investigations into misdemeanor crimes and traffic accidents; (2) interviewing witnesses to crimes, accidents, and security breaches; (3) enforcing Federal and State laws, to include making arrests; and (4) preparing law enforcement paperwork/reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
