Duties

As a POLITICAL MILITARY PLANNER at the GS-0301-14 some of your typical work assignments may include: Serve as the primary conduit for bringing non-Department of Defense (DoD) aspects of national endeavor into military planning. Draw on broad, multidisciplinary knowledge of US Government organizations and foreign operations, international organizations, U.S. military Joint Operational Planning, and contemporary international relations to form a political-military vision, around which military planning can coalesce. Serve as an authoritative liaison between Joint Staff, Office of Secretary of Defense (OSD) and non-DoD organizations to facilitate definition, clarification of strategic guidance, intent, aims and end state. Serve as technical advisor to senior officials at JPSE, JECC headquarters, and supported CCMD on policies, procedures, and implementation of political-military planning programs. Evaluate JECC's political-military planning priorities in relation to USTRANSCOM's priorities, and makes recommendations as necessary to ensure alignment. Formulate and/or modifies political-military planning policies; prepares related reports, background papers, responses to queries, and justifications; and prepares/presents associated high-level briefings.

  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position
  • Passing pre-employment and post-employment physical exams is required
  • Travel and relocation expenses, if approved, will be paid IAW JTR and AFMAN 36-606

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-14 level, if you fulfill the following qualifications: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service: Serving as the primary facilitator for incorporation of inter-agency, international, and multinational/coalition plans and operations into US military operational and operational-strategic planning. Providing expert advice to senior officials related to political-military aspects of ongoing and/or planned operations, training, contingencies and exercises. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
