About the Position: This position is in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). Employees occupying DCIPS positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25. This position is located at the National Ground Intelligence Center, Science and Technology Directorate, Advanced Conventional Weapons, Artillery Branch, Charlottesville, VA 22911..

Duties

Serves as a Missile Systems Engineer within the missile modeling team responsible for creating computer-generated threat representative and predictive weapon/missile characteristics and performance models. Reviews, exploits, analyzes, and makes engineering judgments based on collected data to develop models and simulations using computer aided design and engineering software. Works as part of a modeling team with support from branch technical analysts to develop threat representative trajectory models that accurately model known or estimated system behavior for customers requiring high fidelity models. Utilizes engineering principles and all-source analysis to identify or estimate the characteristics and performance of current and forecasted indirect-fire systems/munitions as well as evaluate their strengths and weaknesses. Proactively coordinates, monitors, and integrates current intelligence data to ensure timely, comprehensive and accurate modeling output.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Two year trial/probationary period may be required.
• In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, individual must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.

One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GG/GS-12 grade level in the Federal service which includes experience with an Artillery Branch; experience in analyzing and transforming available data into software models that characterize and predict ballistic missile performance; experience (or education) with Aeronautics, Dynamics, Autopilot, Six Degree-of-Freedom (6DOF) simulation, wind tunnel and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) data analysis, and aerodynamic model experience.
