You will serve as a SAFETY & OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the Marine Corps Security Force Battalion, Office of the Commanding Officer of STRATEGIC WEAPONS FACILITY PACIFIC.

Duties

You will serve as a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist at Marine Corps Security Force Battalion (MCSFBn) assisting department management in planning, directing, evaluating and oversight of the MCSFBn Safety and Occupational Health Program. You will survey facilities and operations, evaluates compliance with established Federal, State, Strategic System Programs (SSP), SWFPAC and safety and health mandatory requirements. You will perform annual contractor safety and health program assessment and compliance reviews. You will identify hazards and unsafe conditions and practices. You will coordinate safety matters with other activities such as medical, fire prevention, industrial hygiene, procurement, etc. to provide adequate control of safety and health hazards. You will conduct mishaps and accident investigations involving injury/death or personnel and/or damage to property; determines accident/mishap casual factors.

Requirements

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Analyzing and mitigating risks within safety policies and occupational health practices to safeguard against various workplace hazards and uphold safety objectives for compliance with regulatory provisions. GS-9: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: applying knowledge of safety policies and occupational health practices to identify workplace hazards for compliance with regulations and the achievement of safety objectives. Education

In lieu of specialized experience listed in the Qualifications section, applicants may qualify based on education OR equivalent combination of experience and education, as follows:

GS-11
I have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

OR
I have successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
