About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency. It is located within the Clinical Support Nutrition Care Food Production and Services at the Martin Army Community Hospital at Fort Moore in Columbus, Georgia. The primary purpose is to perform tasks associated with preparation of a variety of food service work: serving prepared food and beverages, cleaning food service trays, pans, dishes and work areas. Also, counts money to verify proper change fund.

Duties

Operate, break down and clean all electrical equipment for food preparation. Perform common food service and preparation activities. Perform heavy duty cleaning tasks throughout food service and related areas. Operate cash register which records headcount figures, prices for each menu item sold, and cash collected.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • This position requires rotating shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 40 pounds is required.
  • This position requires the wear of personal protective equipment.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Food Service Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex tasks of a Food Service Worker. I am skilled in performing common food service and preparation activities such as setting up cafeteria lines, steam and dining room tables, and side service stands with hot and cold food items in a fast-paced kitchen environment; operating, cleaning, disassembling, and reassembling a commercial dishwasher machine after each use; sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing and buffing floors; and handling heavy duty garbage cans when collecting and transferring to disposal area. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Other Than Blueprint Reading)Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentDexterity and SafetyKnowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic)Work Practices (Including Keeping Things Neat, Clean, and in Order) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Exerts moderate physical effort in lifting and carrying items weighing from 40lbs. Work requires scouring and scrubbing large-size cooking utensils and pushing heavy carts and trucks in unloading, storing, and delivering supplies. They also may be required to work on ladders and use powered cleaning equipment. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in kitchen environment with constant exposure to steam and heat from cooking and the dishwasher. Environment often uncomfortably hot, noisy and humid. Danger of slipping on freshly mopped floors or on floors where food has been spilled. Danger of cuts or serious burns due to exposure to hot liquids, sharp blades, and hot surfaces. Exposed to constant temperature changes when going from kitchen to refrigerators and freezers, Work area has adequate lighting.
