The primary purpose of this position is to perform as team leader in support of scientific analysis, measurement, and tests in the evaluation of airborne weapon systems and electronic, electro-mechanical, or electro-optical system.

Duties

Performs leader duties over other technicians during the design, installation, configuration, and quality control of airborne instrumentation data systems Designs, fabricates, installs, checks, and maintains specialized instrumentation systems to measure and record test parameters in a variety of environmental, field, or laboratory conditions Organizes and directs the support effort in the modification of test aircraft electronic and electrical instrumentation systems Provides technical oversight during T-2 modification installation/checkout applying personal expertise and knowledge of systems of assigned aircraft. Accomplishes research and planning to accomplish electrical design, fabrication, and installation of wiring and equipment that will be required for aerospace test vehicle modification. Follows all safety/security and fire regulations, ensures classified materials are controlled at all times.

  • The work involves walking, sitting, and standing in laboratories, instrumentation repair/fabrication facilities, test cells, and outdoor facilities, and requires good eye-hand coordination for working in and around aircraft and associated equipment.
  • Routinely requires heavy lifting of45 pounds and occasionally up to 70 pounds to perform mission support tasks.
  • Some work is performed at outdoor test and flight line sites there is regular and recurring exposure to adverse weather conditions, temperature extremes, high noise levels, and rapid changes in wind shift.
  • The work environment requires the employee to stay alert continually and to take special safety precautions including wearing special protective items of clothing.
  • Works rotating shifts as assigned
  • Subject to recall during off-duty days and hours and work on holidays during test periods.
  • The work will require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license will be required for the position.
  • This is a Drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment and participation in random drug testing.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance

Qualifications

Examples of specialized experience includes working as a technician, instructor, inspector, or mechanic (civilian or military) that showed progression in theoretical and practical knowledge of electronic theory, and of the characteristics, function, operation, and capabilities of a variety of types of electronic equipment. This experience must have included the use of schematic diagrams, a variety of test equipment, and the application of appropriate electronic formulas involved in such duties as testing, troubleshooting, modifying, designing, calibrating, installing, maintaining, repairing, constructing, developing, and instructing on electronic equipment, or similar functions. Experience in developing policies, standards, and procedures for maintenance, installation, or similar functions, provided the work clearly shows that the applicant applied a specialized knowledge of the theories and principles of a variety of electronic systems or equipment. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-10 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Ability to design, fabricate, install, schedule and maintain specialized instrumentation systems which measure and record test parameters in a variety of environmental, field, or laboratory conditions. 2. A thorough knowledge of electronic principles and practices, operating parameters, capabilities, and limitations of electronic systems and components associated with airborne and ground instrumentation systems. 3. Provides on-the-job training, maintains training records and instructs personnel on new or improved methods of performing duties. 4.Skill in the interpretation of technical data such as drawings, schematics, blueprints, and specifications of complete electronic systems. 5. Performs quality control inspections insuring deficiencies do not exist in the aircraft or instrumentation systems. 6. Ability to perform calibration and troubleshooting for installed instrumentation systems; provide estimated time to complete (ETIC). PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
