This position is located in the Veterans Transportation Service (VTS) at Colonel Mary Louise Rasmuson Campus of the Alaska VA Healthcare System in Anchorage, AK. The Transportation Assistant acts as primary contact to Veterans for transportation needs.
Duties

The Transportation Assistant works with the VTS Supervisory Mobility Manager for transportation workload forecasting, scheduling design, procedure development, and quality improvement implementation, modification of processes, evaluation and ongoing operational flow of the Veteran Transportation Services program. Major duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:
Performing work involving consult management, appointment scheduling and admissions scheduling
Performing a basic analysis of the data and generating a variety of reports
Reviewing documents, reporting and/or applications for omissions and inconsistencies and ensuring data entry is complete and accurate
Maintaining automated system of program-specific data to track items
Interacting with various other transportation services and providers
Coordinating service practices that decrease waits and delays for patients in all specialty areas
Utilizing various computer programs and systems in processing internal consultations
Administrating quality monitors to be utilized in the internal consultation process
Planning for, organizing, administering, and directing how the work will be accomplished for the VTS program
Reviewing and reporting of data/statistical results of program/project studies, vehicle maintenance and repair, etc.
Reviewing workload types in Veteran Transportation Service e.g., outpatient clinic visits, surgical admissions
Responding to "action required" notifications, insuring the primary providers are correct
Coordinating the day-to-day operation of VTS program flow, processes and functions
Planning and providing support services in the following types of program areas: electronic records management, driver scheduling setup and management, space utilization services
Performing other related duties as assigned
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday; 08:00 a.m. to 04:30 p.m.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirement: The following are minimum requirements for appointment as a Transportation Assistant in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), which all applicants must met.
Specialized Experience (GS-06): You must have one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (i.e., GS-05). Qualifying examples of specialized experience would typically include but are not limited to: performing transportation support duties such as coordinating connections or scheduling; documenting travel information; entering data into automated tracking databases and generating reports; and performing clerical support responsibilities. IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The incumbent will be exposed to stressful working situations that require a professional attitude and collective reasoning. The incumbent is subject to a high volume of work, the need for accuracy, frequency of interruptions and ever-changing demands due to program changes.
